Inspired by travels and love of the ocean 🌊
Broadstairs, Kent
Ami's work is inspired by ancient Etruscan Jewellery; their use of patterns and love for coloured gemstones, as well as her surroundings in Sandwich, Kent. The intricate detailing, used in the ancient jewellery, is reflected in her designs, combined with delicate decoration and simple forms that make the basis for

her range. All of Ami's pieces are passionately made by hand, in her little workshop in Sandwich, Kent, which she has built up over the years.

Haven’t done this for a very long time! But this is me! The face behind all the jewellery. I specialise in recycling precious metals and gemstones into jewels you can and WANT to wear every day! I’ve been making jewellery for over 25 years but had my own studio for just under 9 years. I always worked at shops that had workshops and learnt more on the job than I did in my jewellery BA hons degree.

Few facts about me….
- I’m type 1 diabetic, had it since I was 3 (I’m 42)
- I’m basically blind in my left eye (due to diabetes)- lots of ops on both and how they are now should be it šŸ¤žšŸ½
- I play netball (GS) and also sponsor the team (also broke my little finger playing, that I now can’t bend it. Had to rethink how to hold pliers)
- I love live music, dancing and any excuse to get out!
- I love travelling but who doesn’t. We all need to see as much of the world as possible!
- Summer is my favourite season, I’m a sun worshiper and solar powered for sure
- I’m a major plant collector! Miss having a garden atm but that will be sorted with time.
- I LOVE animals, maybe more than humans. I would love to have the land to take in animals in need but this is a job in itself.
- Last one is I actually left accountancy to study interior design and stumbled on jewellery… never knew what I wanted to do with my life until that moment. So give everything a go as you never know where@it will take you!!

Mixing metals is becoming the thing to do! Full 18ct is becoming costly and this gives the effect of the warmth of gold that we all love.

I took out 8 silver links to shorten this paperclip chain I made ages ago and also added some 18ct links for contrast. The links that were left were just 2 under the right length for a bracelet. So because it’s my lovely customer silver I suggested adding 2 18ct gold links and now it’s a set!

I love wearing all the metal colours, would you? Also this meant I got to see Zoro, check out the last pic for this beautiful large pup! He’s a very cuddly lad 🄰

So this was meant to be a video of me resizing a 14ct white gold ring and protecting the salt and pepper diamond in the process. I don’t have the right carat of wire to use the laser so had to do it the old school way. Tissue soaked in water and an intense flame to heat just where the cut through section is.

Well all I can say is don’t my rings look nice šŸ˜‚ but also happy to report it was soldered and finished successfully with the diamond surviving with no issues šŸ˜®ā€šŸ’Ø

Remember I’m a goldsmith not a videographer…

Symbols in jewellery.

Jewellery carries so much symbolise. From the very first piece they were worn as fertility symbols, mourning and also protection. As symbols and jewellery progressed so did the meanings. People turn to symbols to help find deeper strength in times of need and jewellery is perfect for this!

Shells worn in jewellery symbolise protection, feminine energy, and the ocean. They represent rebirth, growth, and good luck.

The Starfish, a symbol for renewal, inner strength and divine guidance.

This is why I think I’m always drawn to the sea and its little treasures. Who else spends hours looking at the beach, with the sea lapping in the background, looking for little tiny shells and pretty stones? I carry a piece of the sea with one of these signet rings and it brings me calmness having it with me 🐚

Customers diamond made into an 18ct yellow gold pendant. A few shots of the process, when I remembered to take them 🤣
Pearl at the end was also the customers which I made an 18ct gold bail for. So both could go on the silver paperclip chain. I made this a couple of years ago but we switched some links for gold ones. Because why not!

Making white gold from yellow! The alchemy of precious metals is something I’ve learnt over years of testing, weighing, more testing and lots of maths!

Here I am making 9ct white gold using a combination of 18ct yellow, silver and a smidge of base metals. The result, a fully hallmarked white gold ring set with a gorgeous sapphire and 2 aquamarines. A soft gentle design for a surprise engagement!

Will she say yes? Would you to this ring?

With the world so crazy as it is right now let’s take this moment to appreciate the women in your life. Your mothers, grandmothers, sisters, aunties, and of course your best mates. The women you choose as family who aren’t blood.

All the women that are there for you no matter what. Without women my business wouldn’t be here. My main customer base is Women! Beautiful, amazing and wonderful women. Thank you all of you šŸ«¶šŸ¼
