What an incredible few days at The Munich Show! 💎

A huge thank you to everyone who came to see us at Gemworld Munich.

We’ve had the most wonderful conversations, met some incredible people and loved hearing your stories, particularly the plans you have for our gemstones and the beautiful things you hope to create with them.

As a family-run business with generations of gemstone expertise and direct sourcing from Jaipur, it’s incredibly rewarding to see our stones find their way into the hands of talented jewellers, designers and collectors from around the world.

A special thank you to the organisers of The Munich Show for bringing together such an inspiring community.

✨ We’re looking for event staff ✨

Nila Rubia Gems is building a small team of friendly, reliable people to help at jewellery and gemstone shows across the UK and Europe.

Our first opportunity is a paid one-week trip to Munich, from Monday 19 to Monday 26 October.

You’ll help with the journey, setting up the stand, welcoming visitors and supporting the team.

For this opportunity, you’ll need a valid passport, a full driving licence and confidence driving. Sales experience or gem knowledge would be helpful, but isn’t essential.

Sapphire is so much more than blue. 💙

For thousands of years, sapphires have been treasured for their colour, beauty and durability — travelling from some of the world’s most famous gemstone regions into jewellery that can be worn for generations.

Sri Lanka, Kashmir, Myanmar, Madagascar, Australia and Thailand are all well-known sapphire sources, and the stone itself can appear in an extraordinary range of colours — from classic blue to pink, yellow, green, orange and purple.

When I’m sourcing sapphire, I’m looking at far more than colour alone. Clarity, cut, origin and treatment all matter, and understanding those details is part of finding the right stone for the right client.

That’s the part of gemstone sourcing I love: knowing what to look for, knowing what to ask, and finding something really special.

I’m a third-generation gem dealer, working through family connections built over generations. Knowing the people I’m buying from matters to me, as does knowing what to look for.

I want to handle the stones myself, examine their quality and choose carefully. Sourcing directly through trusted contacts helps me find beautiful gems at fair prices.

But choosing them is only part of it. I also love hearing what you’re planning — a piece of jewellery you’re making, a special gift or a stone you’ve been searching for.

Their natural inclusions—sometimes called the stone’s jardin, or garden—are part of their character. When choosing an emerald, look beyond size and perfect clarity. Consider the richness of its colour, how it responds to light, the quality of the cut and any treatment it has received.

Many emeralds are traditionally treated with oil, so honest disclosure matters. Always ask what you are buying and choose someone who can explain the stone clearly.

My family has worked within the Jaipur gem trade for generations, and many of the stones we source come through direct relationships with cutters, dealers and suppliers there. The collection is constantly evolving, which means many of the pieces never even make it online.
