A very different clock came into the workshop last week. It is really a timepiece (in other words it doesn't strike), but it is designed to enable the owner to tell the time at night. The imposing figure carries a rotating pole on top of which is a glass container (sadly not shown in the photos), which has the hours painted around the middle. Inside the glass there would be a lit night light. Once wound, the glass slowly rotates against a pointer and the candle lights up the numbers on the glass. I'm not sure how many people today would want a night light burning at the side of their bed while they were asleep, but it is an interesting horological item. The photos show the figure. The mechanism in the other pictures is located in the base of the clock.
