Oliver and J jewellery is a gallery style designer jewellery shop. We offer a personal bespoke service and repairs with our three experienced Goldsmiths Jess, Rob,and David. We have a wide collection of engagement and wedding bands, suitable for all designs and budgets.

Let’s look at some before-and-after photos of this INCREDIBLE repair by our goldsmith David!

This antique ring was brought to us in a sorry state: at some point a large hole in the shank had been made and a sheet of metal stuck over the top with lead solder. David had to use acid to carefully remove the lead - toxic work which he’s very brave to undertake 😱 Then he beautifully filled in the hole with gold so you can’t even tell it’s there. Check out the video on the final slide and you’ll hardly believe it’s possible!

Finally, the four central claws holding the antique diamond in place all needed more metal adding as they were very worn, and the ring shank needed straightening. As always, the ring is then cleaned and polished to a beautiful mirror shine.

Now the ring is as good as new, beautiful, and strong enough to be worn every day. Well done David! 👏

Behind-the-scenes footage of our amazing goldsmith Jess repairing this antique diamond ring! 💍

The ring came in as our customer had noticed the diamond was loose. The girdle of the stone was sitting completely above the setting and Jess was able to pop it out with her thumb!

To make the stone more secure, Jess added 8 new claws to the original ring. Then she re-set the stone and blended in the claws so they look like they’ve always been there.

Finally, we polish all our repairs up to a mirror finish so that all our repaired jewellery is sent back to you looking as good as new ✨

Spotlight on emerald, birthstone for May! 💚🍀

The first known emerald mines were in Egypt. It is believed that these mines were worked as early as 3500BC! The most desirable emerald colors are bluish green to pure green, with vivid color saturation. In 2011, Elizabeth Taylor’s emerald pendant sold for 6.5 million dollars!

Behind-the-scenes footage of this beautiful ring being handmade by our goldsmith Jess.

Jess hand-crafts every element of the ring, starting from a piece of AgAIN silver, which has been recycled from used medical X-ray film! First she forms and hammers the ring, and then creates a setting for the Alexandrite stone which fits perfectly. Not an easy task for such a small stone!

These are soldered together, and then she maps out and carves the leaf design by hand. Finally Jess sets the stone and polishes the ring. Gorgeous! 💚💙

This ring was a bespoke commission to celebrate the adoption of our customer’s son, and every element of it has a special meaning. Alexandrite is her son’s birth stone and the leaves symbolise growth and care. Her son’s initials were hand-engraved on the inside of the ring, and the ring was blessed at his adoption ceremony.

We’re so happy to be trusted with making something to celebrate such a special, once-in-a-lifetime event. If you have something special you’d like to celebrate, pop into our shop or give us a call! Such a special commission, undertaken by our goldsmith Jess. The customer wanted to celebrate the adoption of her son, and commissioned this bespoke silver ring to be blessed at the adoption ceremony. The central stone is a natural colour-change Alexandrite, her son’s birthstone, and the oak leaves symbolise growth and care. Inside, the ring is engraved with her son’s initials.

The ring is made from recycled medical silver extracted from old x-Ray films, making it a truly ethical material. Jess made a ring, hammered and then hand-carved it to achieve this beautiful and tactile finish. Every surface of this ring has had love and care poured into it!

Jess and our customer worked together to design this ring, so that every element of it was meaningful and special. The final design of the leaves was proposed by our customer’s brother, further grounding the ring in values of family, love and collaboration.

This is central to Jess as a designer - she truly believes that bespoke jewellery should be a collaboration, and loves working together with clients to make their perfect jewellery. She can work with materials you provide, or she can source new, ethical materials to make your ideas come to life. Spotlight on diamonds, birthstone for April!

Diamonds are the mineral form of carbon, and are the hardest gemstone. Most natural diamonds were formed deep within the earth over a billion years ago!

Many people are familiar with white diamonds, but did you know diamonds also come in other colours? They can be black, brown, yellow, pink or even green! Some stones are treated to create these colours, but they can also occur naturally due to other elements.

We have a gorgeous range of natural white and coloured diamonds available in our shop, and a range of lab-grown diamonds. We also have a range of jewellery called “hot diamonds”, which feature diamonds available in silver, perfect for gifts! 💎
