For the first time in awhile a bowl broke while I was taking it off the lathe. I have never taken the opportunity to cut a bowl in half before, largely because I like them too much to waste one. I’d forgotten how much swearing goes into breaking a bowl but looking at the wall thickness I was pleased with the structure of this one. So I guess that’s one positive I can take.

I bought my wonderful William Lennon field boots 9 years ago. By Spring this year the sole was wearing down and they were starting to let water in. So a couple of calls later they returned to the Lennon factory for repair.
I was able to collect them from the factory in Stoney Middleton last week. What an experience, a family business of about 10 people making traditional boots in an old mill factory using machines from the early 1900s the way there great grandfathers did.
The environment was so interesting but what the real hit was meeting the people, they stopped what they were doing and spent half an hour showing me round. Their love of their trade and their determination to continue at a sustainable level without invasive investment was inspiring.
Here’s to the next 9 years for my boots.

Made a couple of plates at the Bodgers Ball, what a pleasure to spend sometime with . The one day courses at the Bodgers were terrific this year, such variety and top class instruction.

Met .Philippon-woodturning at the Origine Corrèze show this weekend. Haven’t met Martin in a while but was a lovely surprise. The work was wonderful and so creative, even for an electric turner😉🤔
