Hoy, aniversario del fallecimiento del fundador de Joyería Sierra en el año 1958, queremos compartir este enlace de uno de sus nietos que ha hecho en LinkedIn.
23 years ago today, my grandfather Gaspar passed away.
He was the true entrepreneur of our family. Born in a small village (Saá) in Northern Spain, one of 12 siblings, and a survivor of the Civil War.
In 1958, he started a jewelry business in Ourense. He didn’t have a degree or a family fortune. He didn’t even have a bank loan, just money lent in batches by friends who trusted his word more than a spreadsheet.
And he built it all with my grandmother, Estrella.
Today’s business logic would probably advise against many of the things he did, but they didn’t care about logic.
I think about them whenever I feel overwhelmed. Gaspar didn’t have a Max Claude Code subscription or even a five-year financial plan. His biggest tech leap was getting a computer in the 90s, and he probably never used it.
But he had the one thing tech can’t replace: the mindset to just go and build it. No waitlists, no overthinking. Just showing up for his customers and his family, year after year. Every weekend.
By the time I was born, he progressively moved on to his true passion, growing grapes, making wine, and being in the Ourense countryside. He built his legacy so he could eventually enjoy the silence of the vineyard.
On Labor Day, it’s a good reminder that tools may eventually change, but the spirit behind the work stays the same.
So, if you are still reading, go and build it!
PD: Photo from when they started the business in 1958. The business is still up and running today, 68 years later, run by my uncle Gaspar Sierra Jr. What a legacy!
