Old Silver belt from Karnataka, India. A central belt buckle is attached to four thick braided chains with rossettes. Two mythological animals are depicted here: the holy cow Kamdhenu and the elephant Airavati. Both are supposed to bring happiness.
Belts are worn by women over the sari.

This wonderful 9ct gold ring would have ben sold in Naples to travellers on the Grand Tour as souvenir jewellery in the 1820’s after the discovery of the ruins of Pompeii and Herculaneum in the 18th century. Made by Pompeian stone cutters, each of the eight round heads of the ring is distinctly carved with different mythological figure.The ring is in exceptionally good condition.
