Opals hold a very special place in our hearts. They were one of the first gemstones we truly became obsessed with & it all started in Australia. 🇦🇺

When we first saw an opal, my immediate thought was: “This is too beautiful. It looks unreal.” I wasn’t even sure if I liked it at first.

We were in Lightning Ridge, right in the middle of the Australian outback, searching through old mine dumps for opals. After our first day, we had collected a whole lot of potch, not much else.

So we went to one of the local opal shops to see what we were actually looking for. One of the women there handed us a stone and said: “Take it outside. You need to see it in the sunlight.” And of course, she was right. 🌈

I was amazed by the woman’s confidence and the passion she had for sharing it with us. But also, there, in the middle of the desert, you wouldn’t get very far. & moreover, she most likely knew: seeing those colours come alive in the sun was the moment we were hooked. 🌞

So, naturally, we went back to the dumps and started searching again. For days on end.

It became a bit of a rush... turning over rock after rock, looking for that tiny glimpse of colour. & eventually, we got lucky and found a few. 🏜

They aren’t huge, and looking at them now, the colours seem much less spectacular than they did after hours of searching under the Australian sun. But looking at them now, we remember Lightning Ridge, the blazing sun, dusty mine dumps, and the excitement of finding a little piece of Australia to take home with us. ✨

some treasures are valuable because of what they are & others because of the story they carry. :) ♥

when we were at Inhorgenta (a major fair for Jewellery, Gemstones and watches) earlier this year, we completely fell in love with aquamarine, especially the rough ones! 🌊

we ended up taking about a kilo home with us… we simply couldn’t resist. 👀

Thomas has already started turning some of them into jewellery, creating pieces that embrace the natural roughness and character of each stone. Not only the stones but the jewels are truly unique. 💍

& there’s more to come...

so keep an eye out. there’s a whole wave of aquamarine jewellery coming your way. 🌬 you’re welcome 🩵

Thomas has been practicing his signet rings, and this is one of his latest pieces. 🪄

Made from sterling silver and sand-cast, the ring gets its unique, rough character directly from the casting process. He carved a cross into the surface and, by blackening the ring, created even more depth and contrast, bringing out the details of the design. 🔥

& there’s more to come. We’re working on a whole range of signet rings — from rough, textured pieces with unique designs to clean, timeless ones that can be individually customized. :)

It has been a while since our last update, and a lot has happened...

We moved! Thankfully, everything went smoothly, and we're slowly feeling more and more at home. We truly appreciate the little space we're creating for ourselves. 🏡🧚🏼‍♀️

Unfortunately, over the past few weeks, Lea has developed inflammation in her wrist and hand. Because of the pain, she isn't able to craft at the moment and has to give her hand plenty of rest. :(

This has been a real challenge, not only for our small business, but also on a personal level. Crafting, especially making jewellery, has been part of our everyday life for many years, long before it became our profession. Not being able to create has been incredibly frustrating, and we're hoping for a smooth recovery. 🩹

✨ One thing that has brought us so much joy during this time is Bowie, a Poodle mix we've been looking after for some weeks. Thomas used to take him on walks while living in Vienna, and now Bowie has been spending time with us here in Idar-Oberstein. If you know us, you know we've been dreaming of growing our little family with a dog for a long time. Having Bowie around has been especially comforting for Lea. 🥰

Since he'll be staying with us again soon, don't be surprised if you see plenty of Bowie in our stories over the coming weeks. 🐾

so stay tuned & see you soon! ✌🏼

loads of love & take care 💜

we have something to tell you… 👀

this past year we’ve been moving back & forth, adapting to unexpected turns and finding new ways to keep flowing with it all. it hasn’t always been easy.... but we’ve learned, grown, and found our way through.

and now we’ve decided 🪄
we’re moving again!
📍this time to idar-oberstein.

a small town, maybe not widely known. for jewellers though: it’s something special! 😏
historically, it became a center for gemstones thanks to its rich agate deposits. 💎 over time, skilled cutters and traders built an international reputation, and even after the local stones ran out, the town remained at the heart of the global gem trade: shaping, cutting, and working with stones from all over the world.
a true pilgrimage place for our craft. 😇

& this is where a new chapter begins for us:
Lea is starting her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Jewellery & Gemstones ✨
we’re full of ideas and big plans for our jewels and our brand. 🥰

we’ll also be setting up a workshop—this time for both of us to work side by side. more space, more capacity, more creating.🔥

after all this time, we’re finally building a base we’ve been longing for.

& from there, we’ll still be venturing out!
we’re planning many markets this year to meet more of you, reconnect, and share what we’re creating.

stay tuned for our new chapter! :)
sending love to all 💜

📸 & a special thank you to .smith.photography for taking those beautiful photos :)
