Today, I’m in Biei, Hokkaido, which is 73 kilometers from Sapporo. In China, I would normally take a taxi for this distance, and the fare might only be around 70 USD. However, in Japan, taking a taxi for such a distance is way too expensive—it would cost around 2000 USD! 😱 So, I opted for the train, but the train service is limited, and the speed isn’t very fast. 🚆 I didn’t choose to rent a car because I’ve never driven in the snow before, and Japan drives on the left, which I’m not used to. 🚗❄️

Biei is home to a famous Christmas tree, known as the "Lonely Tree" 🌲, which is located on private land, so visitors can’t get too close. Many people take photos of the tree from a distance. 📸 After that, I visited the Shirahige Waterfall, which was truly beautiful, with ice floes floating in the river. ❄️💦

Next, I headed to Asahiyama Zoo. One of the unique features of this zoo is that they release penguins at noon, and they walk freely around the zoo! 🐧 Unfortunately, I didn’t catch the penguin show—I wanted to explore the entire zoo instead. 🦁🐒

Traveling in Hokkaido, Japan
