Four versions of the same watch, four completely different styles: our PanoMaticLunar has many faces.

This is partly down to the different dial colours in which it is available.

Here at our manufactory, we produce not only watch movements, but also divinely beautiful dials – which, incidentally, is a real rarity. The production of a dial involves numerous steps, from manufacturing and machining the blank to individually finishing the surface and applying the indexes and numerals.

Which version is your favourite?

Thanks to the traditional workshop system, the various trades and skilled crafts associated with watchmaking used to be scattered throughout the town of Glashütte. Today, we have brought almost all of them together under the roof of our manufactory – from design and engineering to toolmaking, component production and decoration, right through to the dial manufacturing and watch assembly, to name but a few.

Each of our watches has its own story. An idea that inspired us to create it. A tradition that we wanted to revive. Or an almost impossible challenge that was successfully overcome. With , we want to shed light on one of these hidden aspects once a month - today: the three-quarter plate.

Its silhouette epitomises Glashütte watchmaking art like almost no other watch component. The three-quarter plate was developed in 1864 as an alternative to the classic Swiss movement design featuring multiple bridges.

It is crafted from a single piece of metal and, as its name suggests, covers around three-quarters of the movement, which is also called a calibre. As the three-quarter plate covers all moving parts, from the spring barrel to the escape wheel, it not only facilitates assembly but also lends the calibre even greater stability.

To this day, this traditional feature forms the backbone of our mechanical timepieces. Its unmistakable shape is visible through the sapphire crystal case back on many of our models, whilst on the PanoInverse and PanoMaticInverse, for example, it can even be admired from the dial side.

For watch enthusiasts around the world, the sight of it serves as a hallmark – of the sophisticated art of Glashütte watchmaking and its inexhaustible originality.

The PanoReserve is the most minimalist model in our Pano range. Thanks to its manual winding mechanism, the wearer can interact directly with the movement. Meanwhile, the power reserve display is a sophisticated feature that is also highly practical: it shows how many hours the watch will continue to run for before it needs to be wound again.

This fusion of form and function creates a unique, highly personal timepiece.

Naturally beautiful: the balanced proportions that characterise the design of our PanoReserve are no accident. They follow the design principle of the Golden Ratio, a precisely defined ratio that also occurs in nature.

The human eye perceives this division as particularly harmonious. These 'divine proportions' have had a lasting influence on painting, architecture, photography, and watchmaking.

On the PanoReserve, the hour, minute and small seconds displays are aligned on the left, while the minimalist power reserve display and Panorama Date are situated on the right. This asymmetrical yet balanced design gives the watch its distinctive character.

The “Ladies Collection” is now becoming the “Serenade Collection”. Why? Because the multifaceted nature and the appeal of our Serenade Luna, Serenade and Pavonina know no bounds.

From now on, the name speaks for itself: in future, we will no longer include the word “Lady” in the names of our “Serenade Luna”, “Serenade” and “Pavonina” lines. It goes without saying that we are not compromising on the high standards we set for the design and mechanics of these watches.

German watchmaking is a highly complicated craft – and so is our vocabulary. In the Glashütte Original we teach you the language of the artisans at our manufactory. This month’s lesson: the “Falltest” and the “Schlagpendeltest”.

What happens if you drop your watch? We put it to the test so you don’t have to. Much like crash tests in the automotive industry, Glashütte Original’s prototypes undergo a standardised testing procedure to assess their shock resistance in the event of an accident.

First, the watch is dropped from a height of one metre onto a solid surface, which roughly corresponds to a fall from the wrist. In the second part of the test, a standardised impact pendulum is used, which is swung to an angle of 90 degrees and released to strike the watch.

Our laboratory staff then dismantle the prototype into its individual parts and document any damage that may have occurred. The watches have thus fulfilled their service and are, of course, not put on sale. An expensive test, yet one that yields indispensable data to continuously improve the shock resistance of our watches.

The exquisite timepieces created in our atelier are distinguished not only by their masterful mechanics. Their outward appearance is also in a class of its own, with our talented team drawing on their full range of skills.

Artistic skeletonisation, engravings, and dials, such as the hand-painted masterpieces from our collaboration with Meissen, could almost – but only almost – make one forget the magnificent precision engineering inside the watch.

In the atelier of Glashütte Original, watchmaking is elevated to an art form: this is where the brand’s most complex and sophisticated timepieces are created. The watchmakers who undertake our Atelieraufträge craft ingenious mechanisms and grand complications with a steady hand.

They are true masters of their profession, creating high-precision collector’s pieces from the tiniest of wheels, screws and springs – watches that capture every second with precision whilst standing the test of time.

We asked our team to describe Glashütte Original in three words.

Their answers? Quite varied, but always spot on. Because our manufactory and our watches have many facets, and they mean something different to everyone.

So, let’s get started: Which three words do you associate with Glashütte Original?
