Another rare mechanical gem by . To film these complex watches, it’s always a pleasure. Especially when I can go in great detail like with this Four-Axis Tourbillon. I love complex movements, and three-dimensionality in watches. The movement consists of a total 485 components with so many moving parts. From the central two-arm carousel spinning every 60 seconds, to the flying triple-axis tourbillon rotating on 60, 18, and 15-second cycles. As well as a beautiful backplate made out of opal. In case you didn’t know, this watch has a patented 1/6th-second constant force remontoire, and an always-upright dial so it’s all in the same style. A highly visual watch and very stimulating to look at. 😍

Jessica and Maarten decided to launch their own brand called Atelier Pieters. Their first creation is a 60-second tourbillon with a power reserve indicator. The indication is prominently displayed on the caseback with an assortment of special components, as well as on the dial with a small aperture. The movement is crafted in their picturesque atelier, where Maarten mainly focuses on component crafting and Jessica on the finishing.

Selten Watch & Watch Ho & Co. pesent their latest collaboration - Yum Cha (飲茶), limited to only 100 pieces. To commemorate the 3rd anniversary of the community, Selten & Watch Ho. & Co created a special watch. Featuring approximately 3’500 hand engraved lines on the dial, 8 layers of hand-applied enamel, a manual winding Sellita movement and a very special box & warm story accompanying the project. Had the change to photograph this remarkable pocket chronometer (Deck-Watch No. 327/628) by John Arnold & Son, crafted in London around 1786. It represents a pivotal leap forward in the history of precision timekeeping.

While John Harrison paved the way with his revolutionary marine chronometer, it was John Arnold (1736–1799)—the preeminent English watchmaker of his era—who unlocked its true potential. Arnold mastered the art of refining and simplifying Harrison’s complex mechanics, transforming visionary invention into reliable, reproducible engineering that made accurate navigation across the globe possible.

As a deck watch, this timepiece served as an indispensable tool at sea, used to transfer precise time from the master ship’s chronometer to calculate longitude under the open sky. Behind its refined 18th-century facade lies a testament to the golden age of English horology—where raw scientific necessity met exquisite craftsmanship. It stands as an enduring symbol of maritime history, proving that the true measure of genius lies not just in inventing the future, but in bringing it within reach.

Mechanical complexity in motion Jacob & Co.. I had at the pleasure to film in great detail the Jacob & Co. Oil Pump tourbillon automaton. As a fan of complex, three dimensional high horology watches, I had a lot of angles to cover with this one. To make it all work, the hand-wound movement consists of a total 450 components. There’s so many moving parts from the 60-second tourbillon, the derricks going up and down, visible gearing on the side. As well as the static components like the honeycomb-pattern back plate, a miniature reservoir tank, pipes and there’s even a power reserve indicator with a “HI” and “LO” so it’s all in the same style. A highly visual watch, complex to produce and rare to see in the wild.

Say hi to , Chinese watchmaking’s best kept secret. Discovering the people behind new brands has always been a personal pleasure of mine. In today’s video I am in Dongguan, China. Visiting a watchmaker, who caught me by surprise. From watch restoration of the highest level, including the Patek Philippe 6002, all the way to now creating his own watches and an insane personal collection. Qian Guobiao is one of the best Chinese watchmakers I’ve met so far. I hope you will enjoy the video and learn something new as well.
