Over the years, my journeys to Burma (Myanmar) have shaped how I view the gemstone world. There is a certain magic in the air there, especially when you step into the legendary valley of Mogok—a place that has produced some of the most vibrant, electric spinels on Earth.
But the reality on the ground today is vastly different from when I first started traveling there.
Because of the ongoing political situation and heavy export restrictions, sourcing these treasures has become an uphill battle. The legendary „old inventory“ that dealers have relied on in the market is drying out incredibly fast. Every time I look at the current market, I am genuinely astonished at how quickly prices are rising and just how limited the supply has truly become. This is one of my first purchases around 2017 it still had the old Burmese cut to save weight (size) we freshly recut it to give it better proportions, brilliance and a vivid, saturated pinkish-red fire that dances with every turn of the tweezers. Now the final weight of this piece is 3.14ct. With Burma virtually closed off to new exports, acquiring a stone Becomes more difficult day by day.
