300 watches drawn for others before starting DWISS.

That’s how DWISS started. Before the first M1 left Lugano in 2011, Rafael Simões Miranda had already shaped more than 300 timepieces for other brands and personalities, including a limited edition for Sir Richard Branson. He had been collecting top international design awards since 2006 (Red Dot, iF, Good Design) and was teaching watch design in Milan.

DWISS was the first time the brief came from him.

That conviction is in every model since. Wandering hours. Mysterious hours. Floating hours. Displaced hours. Hour readings the big maisons would never sanction, because no industrial designer was running the room.

Today DWISS is still one designer’s studio, in Lugano. Strictly limited editions. Swiss Made. Never re-issued.

Year zero of DWISS. 2011. A long long time ago….

Before the awards. Before the wandering hours. Before the M3, the S1, or the A1. There was the M1.

43mm of 316L steel. Nine parts. Screwed together from the side rather than the back. An architecture you could see, not a finished shell you couldn’t open in your head.

Inside, ETA 2824-2 Elabore automatic. Sapphire crystal. 10 ATM. Swiss Made.

Niobium’s atomic number is 41. We made 41 watches in it.

In 2012 we launched the world’s first niobium watch, in collaboration with CBMM, the Brazilian niobium producer. After one year we launched the C2, only for 41 wrists, the project closed for good.

The case is Nb1Zr (99 percent niobium, 1 percent zirconium), an alloy more familiar to particle accelerators and superconductors than to watch cases. It machines slowly and resists corrosion in ways stainless steel can only approximate.

The S1 Salmon is limited to 50 pieces, debuting at Geneva 2026. After that, the file goes into the archive and stays there.

Salmon is a colour the watch industry rarely commits to. We chose it for the same reason we chose the wandering hours complication: most brands won’t. Two satellite discs orbit under the dial. The active hour rides the upper arc. Minutes follow the central scale. Seconds beat at the centre.

Most Swiss brands hand collectors a finished watch and a marketing story.

In 2019 we built the world’s first Watch Design Club. Enthusiasts paid a small monthly fee, gathered around shared files, and co-designed every detail of a real Swiss made automatic. Case shape, dial layout, indices, typography. Twelve months later they received the finished watch they had drawn together.

The result was the DWISS M3. It went on to win three international design awards: Good Design Australia, Good Design US, and the European Product Design Award. Should we do it again?

When everyone draws a watch face, you draw an iris.

The R1’s RC1 mysterious hour display centres the hour disc at 12 o’clock. The dial reads like an eye looking back at you. Two luminous arcs frame it. The minute scale wraps the edge. A pupil that tracks time, instead of a pair of hands sweeping in circles.

45mm steel case, seven layers of construction, sapphire front and back, automatic Swiss movement, 199 pieces total.

Most watch lume gives up around 3am.

The A1 doesn’t. Its indices and hands are solid Super-LumiNova X1 blocks rather than painted layers, up to four times brighter than the lume on most watches you have owned. The date window glows too, which almost no brand bothers to do.

Underneath the textured tapisserie dial: La Joux-Perret G100 Soigne, 68 hours of reserve, 4Hz, Geneva stripes, perlage, blue screws. Numbered from 001 of 500 to 500 of 500. Then never produced again.

The DWISS S1 was designed around motion, inspired by celestial rhythms and the poetry of time passing above us. Its wandering hours complication creates a constant orbit across the dial, transforming every glance at the wrist into a visual experience.

More than a watch, the S1 is a reminder that time is always moving.
