Atelier 1 is a chapter in the lifelong story of two watchmakers dedicated to the craft.

As with the movement of Atelier 1, the design of our hands and dials is distinctly architectural whilst remaining playful. Interweaving structure, depth and texture, each of the two colourways plays with light in its own way - the generous warmth of Jour and the contemplative calm of Minuit.

Our logo, a tulip drawn from a central M supported by two mirrored J’s, nods to the heritage of our Dutch family name and represents us, the two watchmakers behind Atelier Pieters; Maarten & Jessica.

Presented in platinum, Minuit & Jour colour Atelier 1 in two unique yet harmonious expressions of their makers.

Minuit & Jour — two contrasting colours representing the two complimentary watchmakers behind Atelier 1, Maarten & Jess.

Pictured here are the dial-side power reserve indications. As the power slowly winds down, a discreet aperture reveals a mirror-polished sphere, either flame-blued or icy steel. Its gradual passage providing a discreet reminder that it is time to take a moment to pause, re-wind and refuel and to savour the power reserve mechanism in motion, a ritual driven by your own hands.

HAND. MADE.
Effective pinion making on the Schaublin 70 is not for the faint hearted. Hand made work is stunning but it is never an excuse for a lack of precision. Tolerances in microns, zero tolerance for errors.

One of the central sun gears from our power reserve system.

What starts as a simple rod of 20AP steel passes through a multitude of processes before reaching its final form. Turning, gear cutting, milling, heat treatment, finishing, conformance testing... each discipline comprising dozens of individual steps, each demanding its own precision and judgement.

Hours of careful work are distilled into a component just 5mm in diameter.
