Happy Hands Nova Scotia

Happy Hands Nova Scotia Passionate about showing the beauty in braille, accessibility and inclusion.

For those who don’t know us, we’re Jamie and Griffin Patterson, a mother–son duo from Windsor, Nova Scotia. Together, we created Happy Hands to celebrate the beauty of Braille and spark conversations about inclusion and accessibility.

🎶 Meet Griffin:

Born at just 23 weeks in 2006, Griffin entered the world at 580 grams — a tiny warrior from the very start. Due to his extreme prematurity, he lost

his vision from Retinopathy of Prematurity and was later diagnosed with autism. Fast forward to today — Griffin graduated in June 2025 and is now embracing his next chapter! Music is his heartbeat — whether he’s singing, playing piano, or lost in the sounds of one of the greats, he brings joy and rhythm to everything he does. Through Happy Hands, we’re sharing Griffin’s creativity and spreading a message close to our hearts: that kindness, accessibility, and art can all be felt. 💫

Thank you for joining us on this journey — your support helps us make the world a little brighter, one Braille creation at a time. 💛

Griffin’s journey is the heart behind Happy Hands. He inspires us every day to focus on ability, inclusion, and celebrating each person for who they are.

Happy 20th Birthday, Griffin ❤️
Thank you for continuing to inspire our Happy Hands community.

Today we’re celebrating World Braille Day 🤍

Braille is more than dots on a page — it’s access, independence, literacy, and connection. From reading stories and music to labeling everyday items and creating meaningful handmade pieces, Braille opens the door to information and self-expression for people who are blind or have low vision.

We’re proud to incorporate Braille into what we do and to help spark conversations about accessibility and inclusion. Days like today remind us how powerful it is when information is truly meant for everyone.

✨ Learn it. Share it. Celebrate it.
Happy World Braille Day!

Music has always been close to our hearts, so creating our first “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree” ornament feels extra special 💚

This ornament reads “Jingle Bell Rock” in Braille and marks the beginning of a fun, meaningful new line that blends holiday cheer with accessibility.

More rocking designs coming soon 🎶✨

When you’re already in the Christmas spirit… and new Braille chocolate bar molds arrive! 🍫✨

We’re so excited to be playing with these new molds that let us share sweet messages in Braille, including “Love You,” “Happy Birthday,” “Have a Nice Day,” and “Thank You.”

A little chocolate, a lot of heart, and accessibility baked right in 💛

We can’t wait to see where these sweet new ideas take us!

Winter weather = baking weather! ❄️🍪

Today was all about warm ovens, sweet treats, and enjoying a cozy day indoors. There were smiles, messes, and lots of fun along the way — just the way we like it at Happy Hands.

What’s your favourite thing to bake on a cold day?

We want to give a big shout-out to CADS Nova Scotia ❄️

CADS offers adaptive skiing and snowboarding programs that make winter sports accessible for people with disabilities. It’s about more than skiing — it’s about confidence, independence, friendship, and inclusion.

Thanks to dedicated volunteers and inclusive programming, participants are supported every step (and glide!) of the way. Programs like CADS make such a meaningful difference in our community.
