I often get asked what the custom design process looks like, and I find that many women feel intimidated by the idea. You might think you need a perfect design already drawn up in your mind, but the truth is, the best custom pieces start with nothing more than a feeling, a memory, or a special stone.

Let me take you behind the bench with a recent custom piece for my lovely client, Chris. She had collected beautiful loose gemstones during her travels, but they were just sitting in a drawer.

1. The Spark: We started with her travel stones, her love for dragonflies, and her desire for a bold statement piece that she could wear with confidence.

2. The Collaboration: We went back and forth with sketches, refining the shape and stone placement until the design felt exactly right for her.

3. The Craftsmanship: I hand-textured the sterling silver wings to give them movement and life and carefully set her stunning golden and green gemstones down the center.

4. The Reveal: The contrast of the bright gemstones against the textured silver was breathtaking. But the best part? Seeing Chris’s beaming smile when she put it on.
