From ancient Mesopotamia, hails Inanna; the goddess of liminality in that she is the personification of a particular kind of paradoxical power. She can walk between love and violence, life and death, rule and lawlessness, masculine and feminine 🔥

Archaeological finds depicting her, show Inanna’s consecrated flock grazing on her sacred plant. That plant is distinctly a tall thicket studded with stylised rose blossoms. The Akkadian word for these roses is amurdinnu! Hence the name of this piece.

Inanna’s amurdinnu is as noteworthy for its fragrant flowers as its fanged prickles. Petal and prickle, this plant embodied Inanna’s paradoxical nature.

Be yourself in all of your paradoxical glory!

This pendant was handcarved in .925 sterling, and hand painted with enamel and patina. One of a kind.

Thank you so much for supporting my little corner of the creative world 🖤

I've been making jewellery since 2008, and it is a passion. I started while I was in grad school, needing a creative outlet to my academic load. I've been obsessed with jewellery since I was little 🫣. I hope to continue doing this until my eyes can no longer take it...although I fear that might happen sooner than later because let me tell you, it's very straining on the eyeballs even with glasses and a magnifier 😵‍💫

I appreciate everyone who's ever purchased a jewel and has allowed me to continue to work on my craft! 🥰

Bats; It is not just their physical form that makes bats a curiosity. The way they live and their behaviour places them somewhere betwixt and between, appearing as neither one thing, nor the other. They often live and breed in dark and unusual places such as caves, tunnels and lofts, leaving these at twilight – the time between light and darkness – in search of food. Appearing as half bird, half mammal at the edge of day and night they are seen as liminal beings and not part of the natural order. This liminality gives bats a supernatural air that further heightens mystery and distrust as they cross the borders between birds and mammals, day and night.

Some cultures view the bat as a bad omen, and in others entirely as a symbol of happiness and good luck!! 🙌

The Ouroboros is an ancient symbol depicting a serpent devouring its own tail. It is often interpreted as a symbol for eternal cyclic renewal or a cycle of life, death and rebirth. It's also seen as the mandala of alchemy!

A wide variety of cultures have used this symbol in their expression of various cycle processes that relate to creation and destruction. You too, can use this symbol to signify the end of a destructive pattern in your life, and the beginning of a beautiful renewed self ❤️

These uniquely handcarved earrings depict the Ouroborous symbol. Beautiful, one of a kind, pair!
