Lady Mary, the Dowager Countess and their on-screen Downton Abbey family definitely sparked a wonderful trend for Art Deco jewellery as, experts say, classic 1920s pieces made a massive comeback thanks to the influence of this TV show and other similar costume dramas. Downton Abbey fans are rightly excited about the new feature film, scheduled for release in the theatres in 2019.

A rare Fancy Pink diamond weighing 5.03 carats will take top billing at the Bonhams London Fine Jewelry sale on September 26. It is an unquestionable beauty----square cut, VS1 and "pure" meaning it is of even pink saturation, with no secondary component colors.

If you're interested, it is estimated at £600,000-800,000.

Footnote for any science/geology geeks: good coloured diamonds are rare and occur only one in 10,000 gem quality diamonds. A small percentage are pink and many of those are very small. Unlike all other colored diamonds, their pink color is caused not by trace elements in their chemical composition but by a lucky miracle of nature, a distortion within their atomic lattice caused by the pressure exerted on them during their formation.
