This outatanding piece was crafted in Mongolia and carries all of the traditional features of historical jewellery making of the area, bearing a distinct trademark crossover of influence from both Russian and Chinese jewellery design.
Bright gold vermeil, enamel, filigree, amethyst and peridot gemstones come together in a beautiful palette on this ornate bracelet designed by Barbara Garwood.
Although this piece looks ancient, it is relatively modern. Barbara worked directly with the artisans in Mongolia to express her own designs of colour and shape, but insisted she did not want to change the traditional techniques they used to create jewelley.
In recent years, many artisans are leaving the traditional craft to move the big cities in China, in search of careers in modern jewellery making.
These crafting techniques are a dying art, and the designer of this piece hoped to do a small part to help keep it alive.
