Plastic is Fantastic #2 🧡

Three tiers of glorious orange delight. Wonderfully vibrant — yet surprisingly neutral — this necklace pairs beautifully with so many colours in your wardrobe.

Circa 1960s, I believe.

The large swirling beads are plastic… and absolutely gorgeous. Complementing the piece are sparkling crystal elements that catch the light beautifully and elevate the entire design.

Plastic is fantastic!

Of the hundreds of pieces in my vintage jewelry collection — signed pieces (stay tuned… those are still to come), gorgeous glass, lucite, resin, pearls, and more — this little necklace remains one of my favourites.

Why? Probably because it’s green… and I do love green 💚

And guess what? It’s plastic.

I’ve always been drawn to good design first and foremost. Style. Shape. Presence. That’s what I bought.

Years ago, once all the really beautiful glass pieces started disappearing from the antique show cases and flea market tables, I began picking up plastic jewelry instead. And honestly? Some of the designs are absolutely stunning.

People often overlook vintage plastic, but many pieces have incredible character, colour, and craftsmanship — after all, Bakelite and Lucite are basically just fabulous plastic recipes.

More beauties to come… wait until you see what’s next.

Story time…

In 2004, I designed and created these one-of-a-kind drop earrings to accompany a cuff bracelet absolutely loaded with Swarovski and the most unusual cuts of crystal quartz I had ever come across.

I remember buying a small bag of those stones—and that was it. I have never seen cuts like these before or since. Every last one went into that bracelet and this pair of earrings. Nothing left. No way to recreate them.

The bracelet? Snapped up by Belinda Stronach’s stylist during her run for MP. As I recall, the earrings were offered… and declined.

A blessing in disguise.

These earrings stayed with us—and became part of our family story. Over the past 20 years, whenever my oldest daughter had an event, it was always:

"Mom, may I borrow THE earrings?”

Well worn. Well loved.  One of a kind.

I don’t have a photo of the bracelet (and I wish I did—it was extraordinary), but these remain… and I’ll never come across stones like this again.

Wearing five full feet (one strand, doubled) of exquisite, opalescent art glass. Dreamy tones of n**e, cream, caramel, and beige melt together in the softest, most luminous way.

My best guess is Murano—likely over a century old, with that unmistakable flapper-era elegance. In pristine condition, and as timeless as ever.
