Colour Range: Best known for its deep royal or cornflower blue, sapphires also naturally occur in pink, yellow, green, orange, purple, and white (colorless).
Durability: Ranking a 9 out of 10 on the Mohs hardness scale, sapphire is second in hardness only to diamond, making it extremely durable for everyday wear.
Symbolism: Historically, sapphires represent wisdom, loyalty, truth, nobility, and faithfulness.
Composition: It is a precious variety of the mineral corundum. Red corundum is classified separately as a ruby.

August Birthstone Color: Green
The color of the August birthstone Peridot is green, ranging from shades of brownish to yellowish green. This stone also known as Olivine, named after its primary hue of olive green and it is one of the few gemstones that only occur in one color. Peridot is the gem quality of the mineral forsterite, and the green shade is determined by its iron composition.
