Mikenna has been expressing her interest in hockey since she was 3. She grew up watching both the Powell River Kings and the Chilliwack Chiefs games with her family, riding the “fanboni” during intermissions, inviting Rocco to her birthday parties, volunteering as a rink rat, and even saving up her own money to buy goalie equipment. She joined the First Shift program when she was 5 years old and quickly realized she wanted to be a goalie. She spent her lunch breaks playing hockey at school, daily trips to the rink to find anyone who would play with her, shooting pucks in the backyard, then after 2 years she made her way into the net, practicing with teams 1-4 years older than her.
Her goal in life is to play professionally, but the price to reach that goal is costly. Living in her beloved rural hometown of Powell River has excessive travel costs including ferries and hotel stays to access a higher level of training and competition that her family cannot afford. If you’ve watched her play, you know she’s going places, but she needs your help to get there now more than ever.
Mikenna has been invited by High Calibre Hockey to be apart of the Valkyries Spring Hockey Program in Courtenay. Amazingly 2 other local companies have joined forces to cover her registration cost of over $1,200; A-Rae of Colours and Rae Power Ltd. However practices, games, and tournaments all require travel out of town, some of which are multiple day trips. Without donations and sponsors, this will not be possible. We are reaching out to our community for support to help Mikenna reach her goals!
