So I was flipping through Google News when I stumbled across an article "Better than DEET"
My ears picked up, what could be worse than DEET!? Turns out it was one of my favorite things - Essential oils, specifically Catnip.
Catnip (Nepeta cataria) contains nepetalactone, a natural chemical compound proven by scientific studies to be highly effective—and sometimes up to ten times more powerful than DEET—at repelling mosquitoes by activating specific insect irritant receptors.
I felt tallow would be the perfect base, a shot of Meadowfoam seed oil, three kinds of wax to get the perfect texture and staying power and a few Essential oils to help boost what's already there. I also infused the plant oils with Catnip for an extra layer of protection.
I've made some samples and I am looking for 6 volunteers to trial my product. All I ask is that you answer a few questions. Until I can verify a few things, this should be limited to children over 10. I'll see how low I can drop the Essential oils for kids 6 to 9.

Does anyone else get the feeling that after this major rainstorm, we will be overrun with mosquitoes?
I made a small batch of Mosquito, Flea and Tick spray. Its simply Witch Hazel, Apple C***r Vinegar, Distilled Water and various Essential Oils.
Last year I only used about 2/3rds of a spray bottle. Its safe for anyone over 3, if they are infants try spraying their clothes as the oils aren't meant for their sensitive systems.
You can even safely spray your dog with it too! I don't know if it's safe for cats, I'm sure a quick Google search will answer this.
