Today is the International Day of the Air Traffic Controller, marking the 65th birthday of the IFATCA - International Federation of Air Traffic Controllers' Associations and honouring the professionals who guide aircraft safely through our skies every day.

This year's theme, "Attract them, Value them, Keep them," reflects a top priority for aviation: recruiting new talent, supporting those already in the field and building a workforce that can meet the demands of a growing industry.

To our controllers and to ATC professionals around the world, thank you. The skies are safer because of you.

En cette Journée internationale du contrôleur aérien, on célèbre le 65e anniversaire de l’International Federation of Air Traffic Controllers’ Associations et on souligne le travail de ces gens qui veillent, jour après jour, à une circulation aérienne sécuritaire.

Canada's first Digital Facility in Kingston has reached completion. Our attention now turns to the next critical phase: testing, validation and the path to going live for the Kingston Flight Service Station.

NAV CANADA operates across this country on land that has always been home to First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples. Today, on the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, we pause to honour the Survivors of residential schools, remember the children who never came home and acknowledge the ongoing impact of that history on Indigenous communities.

We believe that reconciliation involves moving beyond words and into active learning.

This year, our employees are taking part in the KAIROS Blanket Exercise. Facilitated by Santele's Healing Circles and led by Indigenous Elders and Knowledge Keepers, this interactive experience asks participants to step onto blankets representing Turtle Island. Through First Nations, Inuit and Métis storytelling, our employees will engage intellectually and emotionally with the history of pre-contact life, colonization and resilience. Through active listening to Indigenous perspectives, we are deepening our understanding of difficult truths and reflecting on the role all Canadians play in reconciliation.

Partout au pays, NAV CANADA mène ses activités sur les terres ancestrales des Premières Nations, des Inuits et des Métis. À l'occasion de la Journée nationale de la vérité et de la réconciliation, nous rendons hommage aux survivantes et survivants des pensionnats, nous nous recueillons en mémoire des enfants qui n'ont jamais pu retourner chez eux et nous reconnaissons les répercussions profondes de ce pan de l'histoire sur les communautés autochtones.

La réconciliation exige d'aller au-delà des discours et s'engager dans un apprentissage actif.

Cette année, le personnel participe à l'exercice des couvertures de KAIROS, offert par Santele's Healing Circles et animé par des aînées et aînés ainsi que des gardiennes et gardiens du savoir autochtones. Les participantes et participants prennent place sur des couvertures représentant l'Île de la Tortue et explorent la vie avant l'arrivée des Européens, la colonisation et la résilience des peuples autochtones. Par une écoute active, nous prendrons la pleine mesure de vérités douloureuses et réfléchirons au rôle que la population canadienne doit jouer dans la réconciliation.
