We get asked about elongated cushions more than almost anything else. And honestly there’s more to them than most people realize.

The ratio is the obvious one. A 1.25 sits differently on a hand than a 1.35. One isn’t better than the other it depends on your fingers, your band width, what you want the stone to do.

Then the corners. Some cushions run pointy, some soft. Some sit halfway between antique and crushed ice. And the true antique cuts chunky facets, full of character — are a completely different ring than a modern brilliant.

None of these are small details. They change how the ring looks every single day.

An oval wants to move. The cut is all flow no corners, no hard stops and the bypass lets the metal follow it. The band doesn’t end at the stone; it wraps past it, one line of gold moving around the diamond and carrying on.

The brief was closeness. She wanted the ring low really low sitting almost flush against the finger, modern but organic. A bypass answers both. It hugs the hand by design, and the freeform wrap gives it movement without adding height. There’s a practical bonus built in: bypasses are among the most resilient settings for everyday wear. The stone sits protected inside the flow of the band.
