Peridot is one of the few gemstones in the world that forms in only one color family. Not blue, not red only green, in every shade of it, because its color comes entirely from iron in its molecular structure.
What changes from stone to stone is only how much iron is present.
A little gives you pale lime-green.
A lot creates deep olive. 🫒
And under candlelight or incandescent light, peridot glows in a way it never does in morning daylight. Which is exactly why the ancients called it “ THE EVENING EMERALD”

This lime green stops me everytime. Seaweed draped over rocks has almost the exact same hues of peridots. That particular yellow-green that only shows up end of summer.
Peridot gets its color from iron within the crystal itself, which is why it doesn’t come in any other shade. Just this one, alive & unmistakable.
