Fantasy GemArt — 65 Years of Craftsmanship
Part Two: The Birth of Fantasy GemArt

After spending years apprenticing under a master goldsmith at Universal Jewellers in Toronto’s diamond district, Angelo DeGennaro realized he wanted more than just a job at the bench.

He wanted to build something of his own.

Together with colleague George Delis, Angelo purchased Gem Art Jewellers — beginning a new chapter that would eventually lead to the acquisition of Fantasy Jewellers and the birth of Fantasy GemArt.

As the business grew throughout the late 1970s and early 1980s, Angelo took the company across Canada, building relationships with retailers from Victoria, British Columbia all the way back to Toronto.

At the time, trade jewellers weren’t allowed to sell privately under their own name. Fantasy GemArt became known behind the scenes for jewellery repairs, sourcing, craftsmanship, and direct access to the trade.

But as the industry evolved, so did the business.

Retailers began sourcing diamonds elsewhere — and Fantasy GemArt made the decision to pivot toward the private sector, helping shape the private jeweller experience that continues today, 65 years later.

From apprentice… to goldsmith… to entrepreneur.

This is The Birth of Fantasy GemArt.
