Are charm bracelets making a comeback? Absolutely yes! Iā€™ve had more and more people come in to have charms added or removed from inherited bracelets, and Iā€™ve finally been able to find some gorgeous vintage bracelets for those wanting to start collecting (they just donā€™t make them like this anymore!) sterling silver, and Iā€™ve checked all the claps to ensure theyā€™re sturdy.

Pearl Stringing 101: Why knot? Can we not knot? And the threads we use to hold it all together.

Knotted: The Classic
A knot between each pearl is the traditional way to string pearls. Itā€™s more labour intensive and has a higher price tag, but has benefits.
It keeps pearls evenly spaced and nicely draped, keeps them from banging together and chipping, and if the thread breaks you only lose one.

Unknotted: The Simpler Option
For the people who donā€™t like the knotted look, you can go without.

Theyā€™re quicker to string so they have a lower price, but if it breaks... Down they all go.

Infrequently Knotted: The Happy Medium
For some of our fashion pearl strands weā€™ve been doing a knot every five or so pearls. This way weā€™re happy with the added security, without changing the look too much for those that prefer the no-knot look.

Lastly, thread:
Silk VS Nylon
Silk is traditional and is used for most pearls. Itā€™s got a lovely drape and strength, but doesnā€™t like getting wet.
Nylon is great for bracelets specifically, since itā€™s more moisture resistant, meaning your bracelet wonā€™t get loose after hand washing.

This was such a special wedding set! Both the gold and stones came from several generations of jewellery and got turned into this lovely pair. Thereā€™s always a risk using older stones (especially emeralds!) but everything cooperated and came together exactly as they hoped.
