Good morning! Wishing you a Wonderful Wednesday!🫶🌱🌞
🌱Today's trivia:
What is the native herbaceous perennial plant with deep magenta stalks, and dark purple berries, toxic roots and seeds but can be boiled and eaten as "poke sallet"?
🌱Answer from yesterday:
🌲Which partially parasitic plant is closely associated with Christmas?
The answer is Mistletoe. It is a hemiparasite, meaning it contains chlorophyll to make its own food through photosynthesis. However, it taps into the host tree's branches using specialized roots called haustoria to extract vital water and minerals.
Eastern Dwarf Mistletoe is native to Ontario but it is much smaller than the traditional Mistletoe.
The large, leafy mistletoe traditionally used for holiday kissing (Phoradendron leucarpum) is native to the eastern and southern United States, not Ontario.
