Filling a need, we found our niche

We discovered some fantastic fabric earrings, but alas couldn't find anywhere to buy them. So, being the long time crafters we are, we set out to make our own. We began experimenting with different fabrics and colours, and soon had way more earrings than we could ever wear...thus The Vintage Acorn was born. Since then we have expanded to include more unique neck

laces that can't easily be found. We have a liking for antique brass, lace, woodland critters, and anything that reminds us of dressing up in our grandma's costume jewellery. We gather inspiration from antique stores, the markets from our travels, street blogs, and our little kitten Russell, who keeps us forever curious.

This holiday season I created a special collection: inspired by art deco romance, crystals, emeralds and old Hollywood glam and while it never reached my instagram or Etsy shop it did reach many of you at all of my holiday markets! I love this collection and am finally showing it the attention it deserves with an instagram story sale tomorrow! Catch the remaining pieces before the end of the year at 8:30pm! This is just a sneak peek, but there will be 28 pieces with limited quantities of each! Mailbox pickup will be available from Downtown Kitchener or free shipping on orders $60+ ($5 tracked shipping under $60). sparkly little things in the sun ready to be made into necklaces for a dear shop in Alberta I’m so thankful for all of my Canadian wholesale stores, especially lately! I haven’t talked about the recent tariff changes yet because I’ve mostly been in denial about it. But after having to cancel a US wholesale order and refund a pile of US Etsy orders, the reality of losing 30% of my business has started to sink in. I’m still hoping I can figure out a way through this mess, but they’re really not making it easy for small handmade businesses. So if you’re another small biz in my boat reading this, I SEE you, guh it’s rough out there. Anyways, there’s never been a better time to shop 🇨🇦 made ✌️♥️🤍

👋👋 I decided to put my face on here so you know there’s a real person behind this brand: a real person making, photographing, packing, shipping, answering messages, posting, etc. etc. I haven’t done much of an intro post before and with this month being our 13th birthday and some new faces here from all of our summer markets I thought I’d share some little tidbits about me!

✨my name is pronounced Ma-rye-ka or Mar-eye-ka, it’s a tricky one for most and I’ll never be upset if you mispronunce it - I can thank my Dutch roots for the silent “j”

✨my background is in marketing but I only worked a year in the corporate world before switching to vintage acorn full time back in 2016

✨vintage acorn started in 2012 with my sister, some YouTube tutorials, a bunch of vintage fabric and an Etsy shop. My OAK gold-filled collection launched in 2023

✨I live and work from my home studio in downtown Kitchener with my kitty Russell (who also turned 13 this month!) and my 75+ house plants

✨my values as a brand and personally include: equality, inclusivity, kindness and justice for everyone. All are welcome here

✨I’m notorious for Insta hiatuses and inconsistent posting - there are months that are grey where no words seem to flow and other periods where I could write a novel for every post. The algorithm hates this, which can be discouraging but I still try and show up

✨some fun things: sad song girly, sparkling water connoisseur, lover of sunsets, and a habitual night owl. I have 2 nieces and 2 nephews (niblings) and they are the four brightest little lights in my life

If you read all this you’re a true gem - it feels weird taking up space when there’s so many terrible things happening in the world - so thanks for being here and supporting this little biz of mine.

Pheww it’s been a summer! Technically I still have two summer markets left but with the majority done and a few weeks break in-between it feels like the end of a hot, hot summer run of markets! Comments I remember that made me really happy: “I’m a silver girly, but you make me want to wear gold!”, “we came to this market just to see you”, “I started following you and watched all of your cat’s highlight, he’s so cute! (😭) and “I’ve never been able to find an anklet that fit me before” - that last one gets me - custom fitting jewelry for everyone has been my MO from the get go. Aside from having a variety of lengths readily available, I will always, always resize or make a custom length for you at no extra charge, because my jewelry is for all bodies, full stop.

Anyways, this was suppose to be a short post, but quickly turned into a rant about my passion for perfectly fit jewels! Thank you to everyone who stopped by a market this summer, I hope you know just how much it means to me! Catch me next on Sept. 4th in Guelph and Sept. 20th in Oshawa ✌️

every start to the new year I ease my way back into working by searching for vintage floral pendants, it’s a way to work without feeling like actual work. This year I stumbled across these beautiful blue florals and knew they would be the perfect addition to the collection. Porcelain made in Germany from the 1980’s, set in brass by me and turned into a necklace for you! Find them this weekend on Sat. and Tender Market on Sun.

bracelets and anklets are finally listed on my Etsy shop! I know a few of you have been waiting for these so thanks for your patienceee! Good things to note: these are all stainless steel and safe for swimming, most of the ones I’m pictured wearing haven’t been taken off my wrist in over 7 months! I’ve listed them in many sizes but if you don’t see the size you need I’m always happy to accommodate, just drop me a message. The daisy chain is currently shown as sold out because I’m saving them for my markets this weekend, but they should be fully stocked again in about a week or so.

the spring lineup is here! I’ll be back at some of my favourite markets and some new ones to the mix this year! I’m so excited to be popping up back in Toronto, it use to be a regular spot in my rotation but it’s been years since my last market there and my jewelry has changed so much!
