As a alumni of both George Brown College’s Jewellery Arts and Gemmology programs, this is disappointing to say in the least.

I found my passion and happiness through the Jewellery Arts program and made life long friends. George Brown wants suspend (cancel) 2 out of the 3 Jewellery programs and completely get rid of thr Gemmology program.

Becuase of the skills I learned in the 3 year Jewellery Art program and the wonderful professors in GBC Jewellery department, I was able to place 2nd in Debeers international Jewellery design competition, The Shining Light Awards in 2021.

This effects Canada’s future Jewellery Industry as a whole seeing as GBC has been the largest school in North America teaching Jewellery. Once gone, Canadian students will have to look outside of Canada to pursue the skills that are taught at GBC.
