Today, locomotive DESX 1305 made its way home to it's original site.

First used on the mill site in the late 1940s and early 1950s to move freight for the Abitibi Power and Paper Company, the locomotive was relocated to Thorold in 2014 following the mill’s closure. In the years that followed, the rail line connecting Iroquois Falls to the main line fell out of service.

For more than a decade, the locomotive worked at Ontario Paper in Thorold—a site acquired by BMI and BEQ in 2020 and now known as Bioveld Niagara.

Thanks to years of coordination and collaboration, and with particular appreciation to the Town of Iroquois Falls and Ontario Northland, the rail has been repaired—making it possible for the locomotive to return home.

With the launch of Abitibi Connex and the presence of Pinnacle Logistics Solutions, the locomotive now has a renewed purpose, supporting complex road-to-rail transloading operations and opening new pathways for Northern Ontario’s development. In the future this same locomotive will be used to support O'Clay's developing projects, bringing food to the North.
