This is so AMAZING!

More than a thousand years ago, Maya dental specialists were creating decorative tooth inlays with a level of precision that still impresses researchers today.

They carefully drilled small cavities into living teeth and fitted pieces of jade, turquoise, pyrite, and other minerals into the openings.

The work was not simply a rough attempt to push stones into enamel.

The holes were shaped with care, and the inlays were secured using durable cements made from mixtures that included plant resins, mineral materials, and other organic compounds.

Modern chemical analysis has found ingredients with antibacterial, antifungal, or anti-inflammatory properties in some of these ancient adhesives.

That may have helped protect the tooth and surrounding tissue while keeping the decoration in place.

The strongest evidence of their skill is that some inlays have remained attached for centuries.

Researchers believe the practice was usually decorative or connected to identity and status rather than a treatment for damaged teeth.

It also appears across different levels of Maya society, suggesting that dental modification was not reserved only for rulers.

Imagine the knowledge required.

The specialist needed to drill without breaking the tooth or reaching the sensitive pulp. The stone had to fit the cavity. The adhesive had to hold in a wet mouth exposed to pressure, food, and bacteria every day.

This was accomplished without electric tools, modern anesthetics, or synthetic dental cement.

Ancient dentistry is often described as primitive because it lacked modern equipment.

The Maya evidence tells a more complicated story.

Their methods combined craftsmanship, botanical knowledge, mineral science, and an understanding of the human tooth.

What looked like jewelry was also an extraordinary technical achievement, small enough to fit inside a smile and strong enough to survive for a millennium.

Everyone is ALWAYS telling you what you “should” do on a full moon. I stopped that years ago…only b/c everyone was saying the same things. I figured it had to be different for each individual all together. The ritual, the words, the feelings. Ofcourse, personal intentions are different and everyone is on their own path. I appreciate the help getting to a path of enlightenment about the moon in general. But what about just sitting under the full moon and actually connecting to that energy it holds. It moves oceans…. What will it move in you without prompting. Truth is, you should always trust your own divine wisdom ultimately. Slowing down enough to be able look with in and see what arises for you on the most personal level. That within itself is the most important ritual. Do your own work of finding the guidance of the movement of the Universe. And we all have it available to us. We all have heard so much about it. But what is it for you…… staring into the moon rather it is day or night. B/c is is full this morning where I live. Embracing the same connection that our ancestor’s had, I think that is what I am drawn to the most these days….. the wisdom always speaks if we can slow down to listen.
