Winter is a tough time for my metal work. I work out of a lovely little shed that's not very well heated or insulated right now (but fixing it up is a goal!) so I do a lot of my design work in the winter. Expect to see a little more of my soup sculpting series soon, but not today! Today I'm surrounding myself with books and picking some new techniques to try out.

I wasn't great at using my sketchbook for a long time, but as I've gotten comfortable with my process I've gotten so attached to this giant sketchbook that the day I finish it I think I'm going to cry. 🤣 I know I've got a lot of artists that follow me, are you sketchbookers? Can that be a verb? Do you get excited when you finish a book or are you reluctant to leave?

I love this rainbow obsidian, it reminds me of crow feathers the way it picks up colours with direct light, but usually looks black. I read once that to other crows, they're actually very brightly coloured birds, we just don't have the right cones and rods to see them. I wonder what rainbow obsidian looks like to crows....

These are my padlock earrings in iolite! I've been making these a long time, I've got some new designs on the go I'm looking forward to showing you soon, I think 2026 is going to be a fun year for new work! But right now it's a fun time to show you work I already have made, 'cause January is a rough time in an outdoor studio 😁

Hello! I was out the other day taking photos, and while I'm still getting the hang of using my camera for jewellery (it's not new, I just have a bad memory), I really liked how this shot of my symbology ring turned out! I've been making this collection forever now, I'm thinking about doing some more work with wire like this soon, I think that would be really fun.

Just wanted to pop in and thank everyone that came out to Halifax Crafters last weekend! It was one of my personal best shows EVER, and it was so good to see so many familiar faces (including some surprise faces I wasn't expecting, KEL. ❤️) I feel so lucky to be part of the Halifax craft community, what a truly awesome and sweet group of people I have found myself amongst. I always feel like I'm leaving my summer camp friends at the end of that show. Now it's back to the studio for me, I just went through my website to adjust inventory and wowee, I have some serious work to do!

Ghostie says thank you so much to everyone who came out to the Ghosts and Ghouls Market yesterday, I was so happy to meet you all and get so many new followers, you were all so sweet!! My next polymer clay event will be with at the Cedar Event Centre on November 1st, and I'll have a ton more miniature food for you there! For my silver lovers, I'll be at Halifax Crafters from November 21-23 at the Lighthouse Art Center with all sorts of new metal pieces to show you! (And I'll be showing some WIPS here leading up to it!) Also, this is Ghost! She joined our family almost a full year ago and I've never posted her picture on Instagram? An actual crime?

Soup of the Day 7/100! Today's soup is Kaleh Pacheh, an Iranian breakfast soup! I was thanking my lucky stars that I decided to do a single serving for each of these, because the full dish is typically served family style and features a whole sheep's head! I don't know if I could do that justice just yet! This soup was super cool to research, because all of the recipes I looked at focused on how to ethically source and prepare meats, and I actually learned a ton I didn't know.

I've been back in the metal studio but working on a ton of stuff I can't show just yet, so I'm hoping to get into things I can next week!

FINALLY back at my bench and I feel SO good, gosh I missed this so much! Not that I don't looove my polymer clay (and I have some work in that medium I'm very proud of to show you after it goes to its various homes) but my art practice has two arms and I don't like having one cut off!!! Commissions and craft fair prep, goooo! Expect more here! More of everything, I hope!

Soup of the Day 6/100: Yokohama style ramen! I have to admit, I'm a little disappointed the broth got lost in the bowl of this one, because this style of ramen is all about the broth! It's a combo of shoyu and tonkatsu broths, and characterized by thicker noodles! It was invented by a former truck driver named Yoshimura Minoru. Not a bad way to retire, inventing one of the most loved soups in the world, huh?

I'm excited, I should have metal work to show you again soon, and of course more tiny foods. I'm making a tiny cabbage as I post this!

Here's soup 5/100! This one is tonkotsu ramen! This style has got a light coloured broth because the length of time the bones are boiled to make the broth breaks down the collagen in the bones, and it makes the flavour very creamy and fatty (and delicious!)

Soup of the day 4/100! Hope everyone likes ramen because there is a whole lot of it coming up in the list! I'm using This one is chicken with a soft boiled egg, tofu and seaweed! Did you know ramen noodles are made with a sodium carbonate mineral water called kansui? I just learned that!
