My entire life I have loved making things and have explored many different crafts such as photography, film and pottery. Silversmithing has become my passion for creating, challenging and expanding my skills. It was suggested to me when my Dharma teacher, Lama Mark Webber, noticed some earrings I had made and suggested I study it as a meditation. Shortly after this my crafting journey deepened whe
n I met Colin Forster, a gifted Artist and Goldsmith, from Queenstown, NZ (www.colinforster.com). He shared his excitement for creating with me and I swiftly got to the bench! His creativity, sharp attention to detail and enthusiasm was very inspiring. For me, silversmithing is an exploration of form, line, light, color and texture by creating jewelry. I love the process of hand crafting each piece from start to finish, creating forms in sterling silver as a wearable art. Upon realizing how extensive the craft of silversmithing is and how much I loved it, I then began looking for a mentor. I approached Sasha Shkolnik at her gallery in Steveston, BC, Juvelisto Design (www.juvelisto.com) and the rest is history! She took me on as an apprentice and this was a rich and amazing opportunity to study and learn from her wealth of knowledge, artistic eye and creativity. During this time, I also had the pleasure of learning from Leanne Guthrie, Genisea Rush, Jody Olson and Leon Shkolinik my wonderful co-workers and friends at Juvelisto who have inspired and shaped this craft for me in many different ways.
