Dream team! Justin Hess, Stephan Von Baehr, Ian McWilliams, Julian Doring, Robin Aitchison, Gianmaria Stelzer, and myself.
I had the wonderful privilege and honour to work with this amazing group of friends and colleagues, to carry out the varnish work on this Montagnana cello copy, as part of the Oberlin Violin Makers workshop which took place in Chicago this year. A most intense and inspiring time! Thanks to Chris Germain for all he has done and continues to do. A wonderfully joyous recording for the changing of seasons today.
Here the incomparable Mark Fewer is playing his 1743 del Gesu model violin made by myself in 2015, while the extraordinary Yolanda Bruno is playing on the beautifully refined "Taft" Stradivari of 1702. Can you tell which is which? :) In addition, the seminal Joel Quarrington plays a bass made by Gio Paulo Maggini in 1608, and the amazing Julian Schwarz is playing on a Gennaro Gagliano cello from 1743. Thank you, Mark - these are the most enjoyable parts of the work :)
