Two Carrots Studio Silversmith ~ Teacher ~ Gardener ~ Creative soul Carrie’s introduction to silversmithing started with a simple evening class many years ago.

Her metals education has been non-traditional, and self-directed. She attends classes locally at Bedrock Supply, and attended Red Deer College Series Summer Arts Program in 2018, receiving a scholarship for the 2019 session. Now part of the Bedrock Studio instructor team, Carrie teaches silversmithing classes several times a month. Silver, copper, bronze, enamel on copper, gemstones, found object

s and upcycled vintage pieces find their way into her work. She finds silversmithing to be the perfect combination of right and left brain thinking: art and science, engineering and physics and just a little bit of alchemy that results in beautiful pieces of wearable art.

Wrapped up one of my 8 week intermediate skills classes tonight. We finished the class with saw pierced and sweat soldered layered pendants. It was such a treat to see how much confidence this class gained as they learned a new skill. So rewarding!

Bugs! Moths and dragonflies and bees and more. I’m testing this project with my intermediate classes this spring, but will offer this project as a two part standalone class in July and August.

Become one with your saw and learn about saw piercing and layering metal using a sweat soldering technique to add dept and dimension. Create a floating pendant (or add a pin back) in this intermediate level class.

NOTE: This project is designed for students with sawing and soldering experience.

A million steps later…just a tiny bit of the art I took in today. I saw 200+ year old masks, this amazing wall sized carving, some phenomenal Emily Carr works, giant bronze sculptures, and so much more. My brain is full, my heart is happy and the creative wheels are spinning. They’ve been in a rut for way too long…

After a day of planes and automobiles and buses, I am sitting outside at a cafe. (Alas, no trains…) The sun is shining, the streets are teeming with herds of band nerds heading to the My sweetie is mixing sound for the festival, and I’m here to relax a wee bit, but also to bring him food and snacks. It’s a gorgeous day. After lunch, a wander about to find art and other lovely sights.

(Also, band uniforms are still terrible)
