I’ve jumped headfirst into a brand new creative rabbit hole. 🤣
Sterling Silver and Base Metal clay. For anyone who hasn’t played with metal clay before, it’s basically microscopic particles of metal mixed with a binder. You shape it like clay, let it dry, and then fire it. The binder burns away and like magic, you’re left with solid metal. Sterling clay fires hotter and behaves a little differently than base metals.
I've spent the last 6 months studying the process. 📖 I’ve been nervous to try my first sterling piece, so I decided to experiment with something lower‑stakes, a bead. Since most stones can’t survive the firing process, I’m waiting for bezel cups so I can add stones after the torching process. 🔥
My beautiful, deep blue Kyanite bead did not fully survive the flame, almost disintegrated (RIP).
The part that lived is raw, jagged and textured, a little feral. Honestly… I’m obsessed!!!
I’m going to wear this piece as a reminder that perfection doesn't exist. Sometimes the most beautiful things are the ones that got scorched, cracked, and still refused to quit. 💙
A few finishing touches left to do with this piece but I am excited to wear it 🥰
