✨Introduction time✨
My name is Paula Moore, the creator behind Catala Jewellery. I am born and raised on Vancouver Island, BC. I grew up in the small village of Zeballos, on the remote west coast of the island, and moved to the Comox Valley in the early 2000’s. Currently, I am travelling the world as a snowcat operator, my full time job building terrain parks in the mountains. My love of skiing has kept me in the industry but the snow isn’t always reliable. This is what led me to pursue jewellery making. I have always had a passion for creating things, especially knitting and crochet. Through research and a general interest, I landed on metalsmithing. In the summer of 2019, I enrolled in the Metal Jewellery Design Certificate at North Island College, 4 years after dreaming of entering the program. I graduated in June 2020 and have been forever grateful to have acquired the skills to create things I believe to be truly beautiful.
Inspiration for me comes from nature and pure simplicity. I love a minimalist design with a setting emphasizing the stones. Or a shape that suggests a mountain, things along those lines. The process of making jewellery has me captivated and I feel like I will forever be a student; always learning.
A little bit more about me, I love skiing. It is probably my favourite thing to do. You’ll find me in the park, unless its a powder day. I learned to ski at Mt. Cain when I was 9 and haven’t stopped. I started working in the ski industry when I was 17 and now I do back to back winters between Canada, China and Australia over the last 4 years. When the weather allows, I’ll be out on the trails mountain biking. I use to play rugby before I was plagued with knee problems. I love a slow morning, team sports, sunrises, yoga and dogs. Spending time with friends and family makes my heart full, especially since I travel so much now.
Thank you for reading and your continued support 🫶🏻 it means the world to me ✨
