A little glimpse behind the making of this ring.

From a piece of cast, recycled heirloom metal at the bench to something that eventually gets worn every day. There are a lot of small steps, adjustments, and decisions in between most of them happening quietly at the bench or with my customer.

14k yellow gold, hand carved abstract mountains in wax, to create a stark contrast between smooth and textured surfaces.

The textured side was inspired by the character of the mountains, while the design also incorporates elements from some of grooms family rings. Bringing a little family history into a completely new piece.

Made to feel a little wild.

This is a piece I’ve returned to a few times over the years, and I think that’s because I never quite get tired of what happens when something as ordinary as a twig becomes precious.

This version was made in 14k yellow gold with a Montana sapphire. The band was cast from a real twig, keeping the texture and imperfections of the original.

Every version ends up a little different, which feels right for something made for one particular person.

Introducing The Talus Ring

Named for the loose rock that gathers along mountain slopes and trails, The Talus Ring is inspired by the rugged landscape of the Canadian Rockies.

Sandblasted silver, a warm 14k yellow gold bezel, and a small blue stone whose origin is unknown.

I love the contrast of the cool, weathered texture with that little flash of blue.

A ring that feels at home in the mountains.

Introducing the Moraine Ring

Inspired by the formation of a moraine, shaped over time by the movement of glaciers and the landscape of the Canadian Rockies.

Handcrafted in 18k yellow gold with a one of a kind rose cut blue/green sapphire. This ring is my first ready made engagement ring for Ridgetop Jewellery.

I loved the idea of creating something that feels like it was shaped by the landscape itself.

I am very fortunate to have gone through the Jewellery Methods program at . This article highlights just how important hands on training and education are to the future of the Canadian jewellery industry.

Learning the skills of goldsmithing takes time, practice, mentorship, and access to proper facilities and programs like this play such an important role in keeping these skills alive and moving forward.

I’m incredibly grateful for the education I received and for the instructors and community who helped me along the way. Since graduating, I’ve also had the incredible opportunity to continue learning and growing under the mentorship of Rudi Peet.

There is always more to learn in this trade, and I feel very fortunate to be surrounded by people who are willing to share their knowledge and help shape the next generation of Canadian goldsmiths.

A really important read for anyone who cares about the future of Canadian jewellery.
