Christine is originally from Toronto, and moved to the Yukon where she met Stuart, from northern BC. Today we live and work in Atlin, a beautiful small remote community in extreme northern British Columbia near the Yukon border. We started Wild Woods Unlimited in 1996, as a hobby business, with only a couple hundred dollars in equipment. We taught ourselves, learning as we went, experimenting with
different styles and techniques before settling on the bandsaw as our tool of choice because of the flexibility it allows in shaping boxes. We love the sensual, unconventional shapes that the bandsaw allows us to create. We call ourselves Wild Woods Unlimited, because of the wilderness we live in, the absolutely wild and beautiful grain patterns revealed within the poplar burls from which we sculpt most of our pieces, and because we love wild and unconventional shapes. We refuse to believe that a box must be square. Our work is truly unique. Not only is there no-one else in the world doing exactly what we do, but each of our pieces is a one-of-a-kind original, both in terms of the unique shape and in terms of the individual grain patterns revealed in each piece. All of our sculpted boxes are individually numbered. There are less than 2400 of these boxes existing in the world today, and they are becoming collector items. We still use some exotic imported hardwoods, but the most popular by far with our customers and collectors is local poplar burl, inlaid with local placer gold and semiprecious minerals, available for sale on our website at www.wildwoodsunlimited.ca
