Wet scraping the elk.

By far the largest and heaviest hide I’ve worked with—humbling, and deeply rewarding.

After yesterday, I’m 3–4 hours into this stage and still at the beginning. Likely a couple more wet scraping sessions before I’m even close to framing.

Some move through this step quickly, but I’ve come to really value the time on the beam—getting as much grain off here makes the dry scrape that much smoother. With a hide this thick, there’s no rushing it.

Taking the time to do it well, so it can become something truly beautiful in the end.
