Recent find 😳
I discover this Watch for the first time thanks to the article on by Thomas Rosputinsky.
This 1960s Nivada Grenchen Wanderer Alarm is one of those pieces that quietly disappeared from the market while bigger names took the spotlight.
Powered by the legendary Vulcain Cricket alarm movement, the Wanderer shared much of its DNA with one of the most iconic mechanical alarm watches ever made — yet remained far harder to find today.
What makes it fascinating is exactly that contradiction: a technically impressive traveler’s watch, produced in small numbers, from an era where Nivada was experimenting with bold tool-watch design before the quartz crisis changed everything.
The case proportions, the utilitarian dial, the mechanical alarm complication… everything about it feels purpose-built for another time. A watch imagined for businessmen, pilots, and travelers crossing continents long before smartphones replaced reminders and alarms.
And somehow, despite all of that history, the Wanderer still flies under the radar. Which is probably why collectors love them so much today.
