Gracie the Blue Heeler Story:

I have created this GoFundMe for my beautiful friends Amanda and Kobie during an incredibly difficult time for their family.

A little backstory about Gracie — she originally belonged to Amanda’s brother, Derek. Gracie was Derek’s absolute world. He loved her like his own child; she meant everything to him.

In October last year, Derek was admitted to hospital unwell, and sadly he never came home. He passed away a few weeks later in November last year, leaving behind so much heartbreak — including his beloved Gracie.

Without hesitation, Amanda and Kobie opened their home and their hearts to Gracie, taking her in to care for and love her just as Derek did. She is now such an important part of their family, and a living connection to Derek.

In April, Gracie required crucial ligament surgery, costing $6,000. Thankfully, she was recovering well — until yesterday morning, when everything changed.

While being carefully taken outside, Gracie suddenly screamed in pain and had to be rushed to the vet. Devastatingly, she has now broken her leg right under the previous surgical repair. This injury is very complex and requires urgent specialist surgery at SASH (Small Animal Specialist Hospital in Adelaide), with an estimated cost of $9,000.

On top of this, Amanda and Kobie have already faced another heartbreaking loss this year. In April, they lost their beautiful horse, Scribble, to colic. Her vet bills totaled $7,000, which depleted their savings and even required them to take out a loan.
Amanda and Kobie are the kind of people who would give their last dollar to help someone else. They are always there for others, never asking for anything in return.
Now, they need help.

They have taken on Gracie out of love for Derek, and they are doing everything they can to give her the life he would have wanted for her. I know they would never feel comfortable asking for support themselves, which is why I have created this fundraiser on their behalf.

If you are able to help in any way — no matter how small — it would mean the world to them and help ease some of the financial pressure they are currently facing.
