I had the pleasure of meeting Scot and Kendall Scott and Kendall Langford in Hahndorf last week while l was in Adelaide. Have been doing business with them for many years now but this was the first face to face, meet and greet!

A big thanks to Stephen for sharing his wealth of knowledge with me.

And a little explanation for those who don’t get it! Yes, l’ve studied diamond setting in both Belgium and Rome but mostly concentrating on pavé. This time the emphasis was on bezels and in particular square stones cause corners can be tricky.

As a rule a jeweller does a four year apprenticeship and doesn’t necessarily learn to set. Becoming a diamond setter is its own particular skill and is a further four year apprenticeship. I’m well on my way but still have lots to learn.

Had this whopping aquamarine ring in today. Not often you see them this big! Set in 18ct gold.
The story goes that Orry Kelly, Australian icon from Kiama NSW designed it. Known for his flamboyant costume designs, he worked along side the likes of Marlyn Munro in Hollywood. Great to see a piece like this in the flesh, especially with such an amazing history.
