Tomorrow is National Close the Gap day!
I would encourage people to go and understand why this day exists, the history behind how this began and what is the current status of disparities.
For those who question why Aboriginal people do, firstly understanding in engrained systemic racism that is so darn embedded in Australia before you comment.
Do your own research, go to credible sources, talk to Aboriginal people on the ground (not those who tick the box thinking they’re gaining thousands), understand the generational impacts of why “close the gap” is bring lip service also.
Aboriginal don’t “bang” about history, racism etc for the fun of it…we live it, feel it and see it daily!
I know my privilege as an Aboriginal women a try to do my best to support my family and people where possible and educate those who need it and raising a child has made me more aware then ever of this.
Here’s a few links if people want to learn more and understand Aboriginal peoples perspective.
I’m sharing just few resources that I believe provide a wider perspective, we are misrepresented a lot and that means by our own people also, but mostly by people with no lived experience and or connections to community.
