5ct Friday!

Old unworn gold, an heirloom diamond, a little bit of magic, and we have a new signet ring to wear.
Star set diamond in the middle, engraved on the sides with the kids names each bracketed with a pair of small diamonds.

A modern piece full of sentimental memories.

5ct Friday real life conversations.

Customer: hello. I have a strange request, can you make custom pendants, Something based on a car logo?

Me: Yes, we make custom pendants.

Customer: really?! Wow. Like this ( doubtfully shows me a picture of their new car) and adding two initials?

Me: yes, of course.

Customer: really?!? Are you sure you can?

Me: of course! Can I add some diamonds?

…….. And this is where we finished up. Initials R and E framed by my take on the Zeekr electric vehicle logo, plus a couple of diamonds 💎😉

5ct Friday!

I wonder which Italian jeweller in the 60’s came up with this crazy “moon” pendant design, then two days after man first landed on the moon, they added the little rocket ship, or so the story goes.

Unfortunately the rocket got caught when the heir of this pendant wore it, so a little restoration was needed.

Also I added an extra ring so this pendant is now worn flat against the chest with the face looking either left or right, instead of forwards. I hope the original jeweller is ok with me making this adjustment, but I think the sacrifice is worth it considering it’s going to be way more wearable this way.

Love something a bit different.

For 5ct Friday I’d like to tell you a story about one of our clients.

Days before he proposed he took photos in random places, whenever the opportunity arose.
The photos were of the ring, in an open box, all behind his Fiancé’s turned back, with her in the frame.
While brushing her teeth in the morning, driving in the car, walking in the park and even asleep in the bed.
I’ve never heard of such cheekiness! I don’t know what would have happened if he’d ruined the surprise!

It’s 5ct Friday!

Compass setting like this (claw placement at North, South, East and West) allows you to see and appreciate the full shape of this natural Radiant cut yellow diamond. Traditional claw placement (on the corners) means the claws tuck in and blend into the shape of the stone. Different placement for different reasons.

Add buttery yellow gold in a hand forged ring and it’s a dream come true for our client.

Elizabeth Pearce was killed by a Perth Doctor on a driving rampage. Elizabeth’s mother, Tracey Pearce, came to see us to turn Elizabeth’s treasured locket into something Elizabeth’s sister Sadie could wear long term.
The locket was made from brass, the plating is wearing off, the “gemstone” in the piece was glass, it was not something I could easily work with since I only know gold and platinum.
We understood the enormous sentimental value in this locket though, and worked around what we could to make it into a piece that can be worn, treating the locket itself as though it was a very fragile gemstone.
Moving forward, continuing to treat this pendant as though it has a fragile gemstone is the best way to keep it going, and to keep such a special part of Elizabeth close.
Our condolences go out to this family, seeing such tragedy first hand is so heartbreaking.

5ct Friday!

A custom cut garnet, with sweet concave facets that give this gem a floral kind of look, but at the same time it looks like it’s lit from inside with millions of neons.
So I continued those radiations by engraving some highlights over the gold petals, like sunbursts from the gem out over the gold.

Farrier Friday! 😉

A chunky horse shoe pendant made for Mike at Northern Farriers.
Based on a photo of the very first Clydesdale horse shoe he ever forged as an apprentice, years ago.
I added a chain loop on the top that is modeled from one of Mikes beautiful hammers I was admiring when he was showing me his truck and how immaculately his tools and working gear were all laid out.
It didn’t really occur to me that he would need his whole “workshop” to be mobile, but of course it does, with a place for everything and everything in its place.

How many pieces does it take to make a wedding?

Technically only one piece, but why stop at the engagement ring when you can add two wedding rings, an outrageous gemstone fantasy ring and a pair of chandelier diamond earrings!
