Born and raised in Armenia, Ishkhan completed his jewellery apprenticeship by his early twenties. He then spent some time travelling and working around the Middle East, where the strong cultural emphasis on expressive and ornate jewellery began to wield an infl
uence upon him. With Ishkhan’s father also having done jewellery making as a career sideline, and his brother being a diamond setter, Ish soon felt the desire to set about applying his own learned skills and inspirations within the industry. He relocated to Australia in 2009 and quickly earned a name as being a respected artist and craftsman, with a fine reputation for perfection and quality. Bold in his creations, sensitive in his creative expression, Ishkhan brings to the world a distinctive take on jewellery and passes on to his clients an opportunity to stand out and really say something unique!
“When a client comes to me for a consultation, I really want them to feel that they are among friends. If a person can feel at ease and really speak their mind, then it creates a space to bring out the best expression of who they really are. That is how I can create something for them which truly speaks from their own heart!” says Ishkhan. Ishkhan’s style is described as ‘earthy’, and he draws influence primarily from the world around him. He has a widespread base of clientele who are devoted to his diverse range of design work and who look forward to his productive periods at the workbench! Admired for his high standard of work and well respected within the industry, Ishkhan has now begun incorporating new technology into his work, making use of 3D printers to show his clients prototypes of their pieces before he actually casts anything in metal.
“When I sit down to work, I first collect my thoughts and try to maintain a complete awareness of what is going on in my mind. Jewellery making is much like art; you become influenced by your environment, and I need to feel a personal connection with every piece that I work on.”
