Having your small business robbed is not something new to us. We hurt when it happened to us and our fellow retailers hurt when it happens to them. Please have a read of this post from Cog Bikes, who have a great business down the road. Hopefully it will start a conversation that prevents a break in down the track.
This post is a little different, but after what happened at our Monbulk store, we felt it needed to be said.
To the people who broke into our Monbulk store :-
You might have thought you were just taking bikes.
That insurance would cover it and we’d be fine.
But that’s not how it works.
You didn’t just break through a door. You broke into a business built with love, long hours, and sheer determination.
A place run by real people who show up every day because they care about what they do.
Yes, we have insurance. But there are excesses, delays, and repairs. And there’s the part no one covers such as the emotional stress, the disruption, the financial loss we still wear.
And the mental toll? It’s real.
Not just for us, but for the people around us including family, friends & our team who now have to see us carry the weight of it all for a while.
We hope these words reach you.
And maybe, when the next “job” comes up, you’ll have second thoughts.
And who knows it might help someone else reconsider too, the next time they’re asked to get involved in something like this.
Because what you tore open wasn’t just a door. It was the front of a small, hard-working local business built by people who care.
Please share as you never know who might read it, and how it could influence someone’s next decision.
