Ethiopian Opal is a relatively newcomer on the world opal market. Since mining began in 2008 it has fast gained popularity, thanks to its competitive price, rich colour spectrum and unique patterns for which is fast gaining a substantial market share. ls, and some stones can have their play of colour diminished while in that state and others will show their colours more vividly. Numbers of tests have shown that Wollo (or commonly known as Welo) opals have the same or better toughness of the Australian Opal as none of the test samples broke after being dropped on the concrete floor from 1500mm.
